Manchester United have completed the signing of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof   Lindelof completed his move to Old Trafford on Wednesday after passing a medical Mourinho believes Lindelof will add depth to his defensive line for next season, with the side competing in the Champions League. A man at the scene told witnesses that his fridge exploded on the seventh floor in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The first calls were placed to emergency services at 12.54am and fire fighters arrived six minutes later Despite the rapid response time, the building was well alight by the time rescuers arrived, with some saying it went up 'like tissue paper'. Questions are being asked about whether the cladding was to blame Chaos and a cacophony of screaming children Chaos and confusion swept through the tower block as its residents were woken up by sirens, screams and the smell of acrid smoke. Mrs Lamrini said: 'The sound of children begging for help as they were trapped in the upper floors is something I will never be able to forget. 'It was a cacophony of anguished screams, horrendous to listen to. It was traumatising – their voices, their high pitched voices – I could hear them screaming for their lives.' Within minutes, it became clear that the advice to residents to stay in their flats until help arrived was beginning to cost lives. Some had left their flats but been ordered back inside by emergency services, it was reported. Witnesses watched helplessly as people trapped in smoke-filled flats took it in turns to suck breaths of air through windows designed to open only fractionally. Mobile phones used as torches to signal help Trapped residents flashed torches, their mobile phones and even fairy lights from their windows in a desperate attempt to attract the attention of rescuers. One witness said: 'People were taking in turns to get air from the window, and flashing their phones, and then the fire just took them. You could hear people yelling from the top, 'Help, get my children out!' and you are just standing there, and watching people die, burning…' Miracle of the baby caught in a blanket Mrs Lamrini said: 'A woman shouted down frantically for someone to help her baby. A man came with a blanket and waited down below. Amazingly he caught the baby, which looked OK. The child was about 11 months old. 'But one middle-aged man came down from a long way up, and landed on the floor with an awful thump. I don't think the paramedics could do anything for him, he came from so high.' Desperate residents jump to their deaths It is believed the first five people to be confirmed dead were those who had jumped or fallen. One resident wept as he described how people 'just threw their kids out, screaming 'save my children'.' Another said his mother stepped over a dead body to escape the building. One man claimed he saw a child who was on fire leap from the 22nd floor, adding: 'He walked to the window, and he jumped.' Another witness, Mahad Egal, said he saw children being thrown from the building, adding: 'It was rapid, the fire was growing well out of control. There is only the stairs, which is smoke, it's dark, it's scary, it's a trip hazard. There are elderly, there are children, there's disabled people. People were jumping out of the place, there is a man who threw two of his children.' Another resident, called Zara, said she saw a mother with a boy who looked about five at a fifth or sixth floor window. She told LBC: 'She actually threw her son out of the window. I think he's OK.' Such was the desperation of people trapped inside by the smoke and flames that they even tried to construct makeshift parachutes from bin bags.  Barely 48 hours after the arrest of notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudi Onuamadike a.k.a Evans, in his palatial mansion in Lagos, police sources, yesterday, disclosed that the dreaded leader of the gang has started naming high-profile accomplices. It was gathered that detectives investigating the case were kept busy, yesterday, taking him round Lagos, with a view to rounding up all those he had so far named. This is even as the Department of State Service, DSS, announced yesterday it had smashed a 15-man kidnap gang that had been terrorising Edo State and its environs, led by a dismissed soldier, Lance Corporal Samaila Madu. DSS also said it has made progress in tackling the spread of insurgents fleeing military operations in the North-East towards Kaduna and its environs. On the arrest of the kidnap don in Lagos, sources said some of the investigators left Lagos in the early hours in search of other named accomplices said to be outside Lagos, especially Edo, Umuahia, Aba, Onitsha and Nnewi, his home town, where he held sway for long until he relocated to Lagos.  Efforts, according to sources, are also in top gear to locate his properties scattered all over the towns where he operated. DSS have also strengthened security around the kidnap kingpin based on intelligence reports that some of the high-profile accomplices are gearing up to find means of silencing their leader to stop him from exposing them. However, the sources assured that security around the suspects remains tight. “We have stern directives from Abuja, nobody will toy with these suspects, people that gave us sleepless nights for many years? .Do you know how happy we are after the arrest of, especially, their leader, Evans?  We have directives to round up all suspected accomplices, whether high or low, and they all will go for it,” the sources said. The break that led to Evans’ arrest Meanwhile, more details emerged, yesterday, on how the gang leader, Evans, was arrested.  Police sources said the final operation that led to the big break started within the week after the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim  Idris, detailed three special teams attached to his office to complement efforts of his Intelligence Response Team, led by ACP Abba Kyari, in the manhunt for Evans. Vanguard gathered that as soon as they arrived Lagos, intelligence reports indicated that the gang leader was relaxing in a location with a friend.

England have won the U-20 World Cup; their first World Cup of any kind since 1966. For the English, it's a day of joy and celebration, but for Nigerians there a little tinge of sadness (and not just because South Africa came to our backyard to plaster us yesterday).

To the English, these names are some of their World Cup heroes, but to an average Nigerian there's something striking about the names above; they are ALL Nigerian. These boys have fulfilled their dreams of winning a World Cup; too bad they did it in the colours of England and not Nigeria. It's no secret anymore that a lot of countries have successful athletes who originated from these shores. In football alone we can mention quite a few "exported talents"; and England have been chief benefactors.

Two of our 9ja boys  the England youngsters listed above; Dominic Solanke and Ademola Lookman; were in particularly lethal form throughout the tournament. Both scored 4 goals enroute to the trophy win. Solanke particularly was very decisive with his goals, two of them coming in the 3-1 semi-final win over Italy; and he rightly took home the Golden Ball award for the tournament's best player.

Considering the U-20 World Cup is the only age-group tournament Nigeria has failed to win (we've conquered U-17 and U-23 level), how nice it would have been if these our exported talents were donning the Nigerian jersey and representing their parents' fatherland. We've lost a lot of talents to other countries in different sports, and sadly I think we're going to lose a lot more given how shambolic our football setup is at the moment.

My appeal now is to our fellow Nigerians who like to go overseas to born pikin; abeg born them here so we can start keeping these talents at home biko! LOL
